To measure image quality, ip-label relies on the objective methods for evaluating video quality recommended by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), J 144-R: objective perceptual video quality measurement techniques for digital cable television in the presence of a full reference.

These methods make it possible to assess the quality of the entire digital delivery infrastructure:

quality of video sources
quality of encoding/translation of transmissions
quality of the transmission network
quality of decoding
